MILESTONES
20 Years of AHIMSA's Major Milestones
We are not exhausted even after four decades journey in serving society at large especially to farmers and marginalized. We have devised many programmes for the upliftment of the needy. We have made use of many government schemes and programmesto fulfil our objective of making a society free from poverty, discrimination of any sort and oppression in any form. Many have joined and walked along with us in this journey. Tall judicial, educational and social personalities have guided and patronized us. Our mentor was eminent scientist and scholar and honourable former President of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. We deem that following are the milestones in our tireless journey:
2004 to 2010
Under poverty alleviation programme, several farmers’ club,women’s club and youth club were formed and with their support eight Lakh(8,00,000) acres of waste land has been converted to fertile lands of agriculture,horticulture and herbal farms all over Tamil Nadu.
In addition, another 60,000 acres of waste land was converted to fertile land for Jatropha Cultivation for Bio-Diesel production.This project was implemented by AHIMSA with the funding support of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
DAIMLER BENZ of Germany joined hands with AHIMSA in Jatropha cultivation and Bio-diesel Research activities on Industrial scale at Thiruvannamalai District of TamilNadu.
2011
Under the guidance of Former President of India Hon’ble Dr.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM, AHIMSA planted 6.5 crores trees all over Tamil Nadu. This record breaking project was completed in 7 months span of time with the support of student community. This project was accredited and appreciation Certificate was awarded by UNEP of United Nations.
2012
Various skill development trainings in multi-skill service activities were organized and loans were arranged for economically weaker section people to setup cottage industries i.e. Farmers to develop agriculture production, Women to develop Self Help Groups for ancillary works to farmers,youth clubs to be involved in value addition in agro produces and chain store marketing.
2014
AHIMSA was functioning as the Nodal Agency for implementing SAGY(Saansad Awash Gram Yojana), one of Novel Projects of our honourable Prime Minister, at Muthalakurichy. Mr. Pon RadhaKrishnan, the then Member of Parliament of Kanyakumari Constituency and Honourable Union Minister was presence and valuable guidance was there in many occasions during implementation of the project.
2016
We tried to implement a scheme ‘Home for All’ in KalaiyarKovil, SivagangaiDistrict, Tamil Nadu. For making use of uneducated youth of that area in the project, training programmes were organized to them through Gandhi Gram University, IIT, Madras, KVIC, MSME to develop their skill required for construction industry. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the project due to non-availability of adequate funds from Central Government. Hence, Rs.96,00,000/- worth of building materials were utilized for constructing schools, public toilets with the view to avoid wastage of material. Good thing was that the trained youth were absorbed by many construction companies later.
2017
In ThalapathySamudram Village, NanguneriTaluk, Tirunelveli District, FPO was initiated. Members were encouraged to grow plantain for marketing purpose. AFPHD, a MNC of Finland singed MOU with us to buy ten different value added products from plantain, vegetables as well as fruits and to start an industry for that purpose by which employment would be generated as well as the livelihood of the respective farmers would beboosted.
2018
ThalapathySamudram FPOwas started under the title ‘ThalapathySamudram AGINA FPO’with 1000 membership. Nearly in 3,00,000acres, Plantain Cultivation was started to help the farmers/agriculturalists. With the help of other Social Welfare Movements and Youth Organizations’ volunteers,water bodies of the village were silted and deepened. In the same water, fish farms were created. University of Madras, Geography Department by its Remote Sensing Technology offered assistance in this process. Besides this, under the “Cluster Approach” 500 persons were formed as a group under the Poverty Alleviation Scheme. Farmers were encouraged to breed Milch animals with the training of Veterinary College/University. In addition to these measures, grass growing, compost manure producing,Veterinary Hospital and more value added products industries were started.
2019
Under the poverty alleviation scheme, 500 women were given employment opportunity as Agrarian Consumer Service with the financial assistance of NABARD through its subsidiary Organization NAFIN to the extent of Rs.2,00,00,000/-. This programme did not find progress due to “Covid – 19“. Similarly projects of Agri Products, Milk Production and Fisheries also faced the halt. Ultimately Ahimsa faced economic downfall but withstood. Government of India, Revenue Department has selected “Ahimsa” for training persons and also given a donation of Rs.10,000/- to Ahimsa.
2020
“Covid – 19” adversely affected the lives of millions our country and the worst hit was the poor and marginalized. They had to face lot of sufferings. During the pandemic, Tamil Nadu Government selected “Ahimsa” as one of the organizations for distributing Vegetables/Fruits in affordable price through Mobile Vehicles and we distributed fruits, vegetables and food items to the poor/downtrodden people through 58 trucks accordingly.
2021
In Kancheepuram District, SriperambadhurTaluk, Kundrathur Block, Serapanamcheri Municipality, a Central Government Scheme namely ‘Home for All’ was started to be implemented. Below Poverty Line (BPL)/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) people especially women were identified as beneficiaries of the scheme. As per scheme, workers in unorganized sector are also eligible to get a home cost of which will be generated through bank loan with subsidy of Central Government. Industrial Cluster schemes was formulated to generate employment to the benificariesso that they would be eligible in terms of repayment capacity to get housing loan.Necessary skill development training was given to them.
2022
Process of availing bank loans to the beneficiaries of Home for All Scheme is being carried out and thought to be completed in short span. Once bank loan is sanctioned, house for 1000 beneficiaries will be constructed and handed over at the earliest possible time. In this process, lot of unemployed as well as skilled youth will also be benefited as they will be employed in the project.
Similar projects in various places are being pursued by us. We shall continue our journey with the same spirit and dedication.

Gravity flow fiber filter is the least power consuming high rate filter for tertiary sewage treatment to produce water free from suspended impurities suitable for industrial use.
